Advanced Parole is a document issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) that allows foreign nationals with pending immigration applications, such as adjustment of status or TPS, to temporarily travel outside the United States and return without affecting their application.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for Advanced Parole, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Pending Adjustment of Status:

Applicants with a pending adjustment of status application (Form I-485) can apply for Advanced Parole.

Individuals with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) can apply for Advanced Parole to travel outside the U.S.

Other Special Situations

Individuals with certain pending immigration petitions or in special immigration programs (such as DACA) may also qualify for Advanced Parole.

Important Note: Traveling without Advanced Parole while having a pending immigration process may be considered abandonment of your application.

Application
Process

  • Filing Form I-131
    We complete and file Form I-131, Application for Travel Document, with USCIS.
  • Payment of Fees
    You must pay the filing fee for Form I-131 unless exempt.
  • Review and Approval
    USCIS will review your application, and if approved, they will send you the Advanced Parole document.
  • Use of Document
    Once approved, you can use the Advanced Parole to travel temporarily outside the U.S. and return within the authorized period.

Documentation

  • Completed Form I-131.
  • Copy of the notice of your pending application (e.g., adjustment of status, TPS, etc.).
  • Proof of the need to travel (in some cases, you may need to justify the urgency or humanitarian reasons for travel).
  • Recent passport-style photograph.
  • Copy of a valid passport.
  • Payment of the fee or fee waiver request (if applicable).
